President's MessageFebruary 2017
Wow! Yes, it is a great new look for our website.
What a great year we had in 2016! Fantastic events with outstanding speakers and wonderful times catching up with those colleagues you’ve missed. Your association strives to fulfill the needs and wants of our members like the new look of this website.
Thank you Mark for all your work on this!
This year looks to be another busy one. On January 30, 2017, I attended the Florida Board of Opticianry meeting in Tallahassee. The meeting was very interesting and productive. With a full agenda, the guests included representatives from NCSORB, ABO, NAO and several more. On the agenda, a presentation from ABO on their Practical Exam that has very real like Virtual simulations of the lensometer and slit lamp. Other items on the agenda included applicant variance requests and the NAO Career Progression Program, which the Board approved. Good news for apprentices.
In early February, your association Board of Directors gathered in Tampa for a two day meeting. Much was accomplished and your association board continues to look ahead to the future for ways to improve what we do for you. Mark Miller, executive director, gave us a wrap up of last year’s successes and laid out plans for a busy 2017. Our Lobbyist, Nancy Stewart brought us up to speed on the movement at the Capitol in Tallahassee. Don’t forget that POF also helps PROTECT YOUR LICENSE!
Also this month, the OAA held its Leadership Conference. This is where workshops are put on to help various states run their associations more effectively. POF with our large membership, excellent education, and active legislative involvement is the strongest optician’s associations in the U.S.
Our first Big Event this year will be West Coast Better Vision Conference , May 19-21, 2017 at the beautiful Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. Make plans and reservations now as this place always fills up. For the entire years schedule see it on this site.
Our industry is evolving and changing. Those French and Italian companies seem to be playing nice together in the sand box. Stay tuned! More to come I’m sure.
